This Privacy Policy describes how the Cookie Confirm Consent Check Chrome extension (“the Extension”) handles information when you use it. The Extension is developed and maintained by Cookie Confirm (cookieconfirm.com).

1. What the Extension Does

The Extension is a developer and compliance tool that inspects how websites implement user consent. It reads consent signals from the active browser tab, including Google Consent Mode v2 signals, IAB TCF strings, and IAB GPP strings, and displays them in the extension popup.

2. Data We Collect

The Extension does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Specifically:

  • No browsing history is recorded or stored.
  • No personally identifiable information (PII) is collected.
  • No data is sent to Cookie Confirm servers or any third-party servers.
  • No analytics or tracking is embedded in the Extension.

3. Data Stored Locally

The Extension temporarily stores consent signal data from the active tab using chrome.storage.local. This data includes:

  • Google Consent Mode signal states (e.g. ad_storage, analytics_storage)
  • GCS and GCD parameter values from outgoing Google requests
  • IAB TCF consent strings and metadata
  • IAB GPP strings and metadata
  • Diagnostic flags (e.g. whether a CMP was detected, tag loading order)

This data is stored only on your local device, is scoped to the active browser tab, and is automatically removed when the tab is closed or when a new page loads. It is never transmitted outside your device.

4. Permissions Used

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:

  • storage — to temporarily store consent signal data per tab on your local device.
  • webRequest — to observe outgoing Google requests and read GCS/GCD consent parameters from the URL query string.
  • host_permissions (<all_urls>) — required to inject the consent probe script on any website you visit, so the Extension can read consent globals from the page.

These permissions are used solely for the purpose of reading and displaying consent signals. No data collected via these permissions is stored beyond the active tab session or transmitted externally.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

6. Children’s Privacy

The Extension is intended for developers, marketers, and compliance professionals. It is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
